Default services

Post by aluff » Fri Jul 24, 2015 6:59 pm

I'm glad Murus 1.3 has a large list of default services! In particular Apple services such as Back to my Mac, Airplay, and FaceTime were always a pain to configure in the past. However, there are a few high profile services missing:
  • CardDAVS (CardDav + SSL) is port 8843 TCP and CalDAVS (CalDAV + SSL_ is port 8443 TCP. Both are missing from "Basic Services" and "Mail". Not sure about the non-SSL ports. These should be added to Murus (perhaps as "CALENDAR" and "CONTACTS" entries) and opened by default in less restrictive configurations.
  • Dropbox LAN sync is port 17500 TCP.
  • Crashplan P2P is port 4242 TCP.
  • IRC uses several ports including 6667, 6670, and 9000.
  • Battle.net (Blizzard games) use 1119, 1120, and 3724 TCP and UDP.
  • Steam uses 27000:27050 4380 3478 4379 4380 1500 3005 3101 28960 TCP and UDP (Link).
  • Apple GameCenter uses 3478:3497 4398 5223 16384:16387 16393:16472 TCP and UDP (Link).
I can understand not wanting to open some of these by default. Having them pre-defined would make it easer for users to add what they need.

This is interesting, ok we will add these services as soon as possible.

Link for Blizzard / Battle.net port information.
Link for Dropbox information.
Link for Crashplan information (scroll down a bit).
NOTE: These have ports in addition to the ones I provided above. I've never used or needed the additional ports personally, but in the interest of completeness it may be helpful to add these.

Code: Select all

Apple OS X Server ports for Calendar Server:
CalDAV 8008 TCP
CalDAVs 8443 TCP

Apple OS X Server ports for Contacts Server:
CardDAV 8800 TCP
CardDAVs 8843 TCP
Don't have a good reference though. It's buried in the Apple Server documentation PDFs.

FWIW I'd like to see these links referenced in the notes for pre-defined services. Might be a pain to maintain if they change frequently though.

Additionally, it seems the Airplay definition could be tweaked. I use AirServer to make my Mac into an AirPlay target. The ports they suggest are (link):

Code: Select all

Ports used by AirServer:
AirPlay - TCP 7000
AirPlay Mirroring - TCP 7100
AirPlay Audio - TCP 5000
AirPlay Audio - UDP 6010-6012
Apple Bonjour - UDP 5353
If you don't want to include these in the default "AirPlay" (client) service definition it would be nice to have them defined in an "AirPlay Server" service. You could use "AirServer" but presumably AirParrot and other AirPlay emulators use the same ports for compatibility.
